Fault in the wheel speed sensor – ABS system circuit. The controller has detected an incorrect signal or an open circuit in the wheel speed sensor circuit, preventing the anti-lock braking system from functioning correctly.

OBD-II (EN): Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction

Code C0230 signals a problem with the wheel speed sensor in the ABS system – the controller detected an incorrect signal, which may result from a faulty sensor, an open circuit in the wiring, or a worn tone ring on the hub. This fault disables ABS protection and may affect ESP and traction control operation, directly reducing driving safety. Diagnosis at a workshop equipped with an ABS scanner capable of live data reading is recommended as soon as possible.

Symptoms

Illuminated ABS warning light on the dashboard; possible deactivation of the ESP/VSC/TCS system; extended stopping distance on slippery surfaces; lack of ABS system operation during hard braking; possible brake system warning light; pulsation or abnormal brake operation in some vehicles.

Possible causes

• Damaged or worn wheel speed sensor (magnetic or Hall effect) • Open or short circuit in the sensor wiring harness (mechanical damage, connector corrosion) • Contaminated or damaged tone ring (encoder) on the hub or joint • Excessive wheel bearing hub play causing an irregular signal • Malfunction of the ABS module (EBCM) – rare, after excluding other causes • Loose or corroded electrical connector in the sensor circuit
